I have an A4LD and a 4.0 in my B2, and want a manual. which would be the easiest to install? M50D, T-5, or FM146? I'm on a tight budget too!

Easiest, I am not sure.

M5OD seem to be the preferred manual to go behind a 4L. I don't know if the FM146 is strong enough for a 4.0L

I don't know what a T-5 is so can't comment.

The t-5 is what was put behind most 90s mustangs, camaros, and firebirds, you can use the 4cyl mustang bell housing to bolt the t5 behind a 4L. What all fabrication would have to be done to use a m5od? What transfer case would be needed?

I can't give you more guidance as I never been there. Just reporting what I seen most often mentioned.

I hate to say it, but the sister site TRS has builders on it that don't come over here. http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/

You can probably find a very solid answer there.

2.3 and 4.0 had different bell housings. You're gonna have a hell of a time bolting a t5 to a 4.0, not only that but how are you gonna hang a tcase on a 2wd trans? The m5od is a bolt in swap. The right trans will bolt to your 4.0, your choice of bw1350 or 1354 tcase, use off-the-shelf clutch and hydraulics and standard length drive shafts.

The fm146 would be a bolt on swap as well, but they're weaker than the Mazda trans. They had their problems behind a 2.9, the extra torque of a 4.0 won't be easy on em. Plus, they were only used for a few years, so the Mazda trans should be easier to find

I have the M5OD in mine, and do not regret the switch at all......It's probably be the best switch for you too, but make sure you measure the length of the transmission, or make sure you get the driveshaft along with the replacement.

Will a 1993 2wd Trans from a Mazda B3000 bolt to my 2.8l? Also need to know if my t-case will bolt to it? Thanks.

The 2.8L shares the bolt pattern with the 2.9L and 4.0L. The 3.0L is different.

So no... it will not bolt up.

M5OD. It’s a one piece transmission so the bell housing doesn’t come off. Use the 4.0 flywheel and clutch assembly. Clutch pedals have a model change I think in 88. Get the brake pedal from the manual transmission vehicle as well. It’s different than the automatic. The clutch safety switch wiring should already be in place but will have a jumper wire on it as you have an automatic.
