Bare aluminum is what you want. Heat is conducted in the same way electricity conducts. If you paint the wires, the electricity wont flow. In the same way you will be reducing how efficiently the radiator is conducting heat from the coolant to the air. Just something to consider.
You can also try setting the weight of the vehicle down on the tire with only that lugnut on there, then with out jacking it back up, try taking the lug nut off.
PS, the wheel studs are harder than the hub/rotor material. Drilling that stud out will suck if it comes to it.
The proper way:
--Jack up vehicle
--Support with jack stands
--Remove fill plug for rear axle. This is critical. If the fill plug is stripped out (3/8) square drive then you may not be able to fill the axle.
--Remove differential cover, and catch the oil with an oil pan. It will stink a little...
Looks like you could use some new brake pads too.
A note about the 63" leafs. The ones i got were fine till the first time I had a heavy load on my trailer. I lost about 1.5 inches after that. It went from raked to level when unloaded and sagging with my spare tire and other stuff in the bed...
