Hello, new to this and am glad to find a place where people who have these great Fords can get advise. I have a 86 that I restored and hopefully will get pics up soon. But I also have a 89 I want to make my real off roader. The 89 Bronco 2 is a 5 speed standard with a 2.9. I can get a 97 Ford ranger 4x4 automatic that has been wrecked. The 4.0 is good. I see from this forum I can get the 97 4.0 to fit into a 89 Bronco 2? I realize I'll need the wiring from the 97.
I was told that I needed the dash swap as well? Is it possible to use the automatic from the ranger and rear end? should I keep the 5 speed? Is not the automatic better for off road? I plan a lift and to make the 89 into an overlander. Thanks for reading.
