Hi I'm new to the group and the 2.8l . My 84 b2 will occasionally blow massive amounts of steam out the exhaust. I thought head gasket at first but as I said it only on occasion. Is it possible that it's a intake manifold gasket?

Probably the best test you can do is a leakdown test. This is when you apply air pressure to a cylinder and then listen for escaping air at different places. At the rad cap, the oil fill cap, the intake, the exhaust, and other spark plug holes. There is a special tool for this. One has one air gauge, another has 2 gauges. You compare the leak down between the 2 gauges to determine how bad a cylinder is. YouTube probably has a good vid on how to do this.

Ok... pulled it apart today and it was definitely the intake gaskets. The bolts were barely finger tight.
