I ordered a new Motorcraft DY1123 ABS Wheel Speed Sensor for my 1990 BII. I received it today and noticed it did not come with any type of gasket. Is the 0-ring on it the soul source of leak protection?

It looks like it is a fairly simple install. Clean the area well so noting falls in, unplug it, unbolt the single bolt holding it in the Differential housing and pull it up. Then coat the new O-ring with a little motor oil and reinstall, reinstall the bolt and plug back in?

That's what I remember from when I replaced mine.

Thanks Jerry.

Jerry how's your A4LD Auto Transmission knowledge? I never got a single response to a question I posted in the transmission thread regarding what can I service while changing the transmission filter on a A4LD transmission.

For your A4LD there isn't much to service other than the filter, gasket, and fluid. You could add a magnet to the pan or install a drain plug. Also if yiu were feeling foggy you could drop the valve body and install a shift kit.

just about zero... although I'm in the middle of a filter and fluid change. There's good videos on youtube for that.

Ok, thanks guys. I will just have a complete flush done and change the filter and call it a day.

The A4LD can be a problematic transmission, and $2k+ rebuild. Fluid/filter and keeping it cool are your main things to do on those transmissions. I'm not too thrilled with the transmission in my 88 B2 even after the rebuild I have no faith in it at all, course after having the tranny fail in my 93 Ranger twice there's a lot of reason to have no faith in that transmission.

Install a large auxiliary cooler if your truck doesn't already have one. I want to add a temp gauge in my transmission to monitor temps.

Some weirdness here... my OLD trans fluid looks green in the drain pan and when pouring it off but when a small amount is on a paper towel, like wiping the dipstick, it looks burnt orange. I'm talking pea soup green.
My first thought is coolant but it will take a lot of it to make it that color.

wildbill23C

I already have an Auxiliary Trans cooler in addition to the factory installed one.

Mission Accomplished. New ABS Speed Sensor installed. It took longer to clean the area good then install it. No more Rear ABS light on the dash. It started Monday staying on when I would start the BII. It would then go off when I started to drive but then come back on when ever I started the BII. I installed a Motorcraft DY1123 speed sensor from rockauto.
