Choice of tire size

I have read information that many have replaced their stock size tires with 235/75/15 - I’m looking for a set of old school outlined white letter tires and really don’t see the need for larger tires, it’s going to be mostly a city truck and not a full blown 4 wheeler. I’m also into cheap - this is a budget restore. I’m deciding between a set of lightly used Firestone Destination LE3 215/75/15 and Goodyear Wrangler Walmart stock size 235/75/15, at approx the same price. Any input on power loss / handling or any other issues between the 2 sizes?

What do you have for a gear ratio?

With 3.73's and a 2.8 my Ranger got around pretty good on 235's.

If you want to stay Stock the 205/75/15's are no longer available from Firestone in the Destinations.

My Bronco has the Walmart Goodyear tires and it rides and handles just fine. It is our daily run around vehicle and is mainly highway driven in 2wd mode.

I was able to find some used / like new 215/75/15 Firestone destination white letters for $300, love them! And love your BII color combo, mine is the brown over tan. This vehicle has been a blast to work on, I’ll be an expert on 90% of it by the time it’s “done”…

I would lean towards the Wal Mart tires. Bit wider, and new, mine ran $298 for the tires, $48 for the lifetime balance, $12 for new valve stems, and $40 for Road Hazard Warranty. If you eliminate the road hazard cost, your other costs including new larger tires opposed to used, would run about the same. My prices are from a couple years ago but they should still be close.
