So new to this, is there any tips or tricks to getting this mechanical fuel pump off. it is in the most pain in the rear location I have ever seen.

remove powerstering and oil sending unit. my choice, go to auto zone and buy a electric carb fuel pump.

We will be working on Bronco II as well right after we finished installing the Smittybilt parts on the current Jeep project. Have you tried that electric carb fuel pump? If so, how's it so far?

HAHA that was a great location for that fuel pump on the 2.8L engines. I took mine to a mechanic and let them mess with it. But, now that I'm older and far more mechanically inclined I'd simply do it myself and remove the AC compressor/power steering unit for easier access. You could probably manage with some extensions and u-joints without removing anything but I'd take the time and move stuff out of my way.
