Hey guys,

I had purchased a used 1967 6-bolt 289 V-8 from to swap into a BII, but the project has been put on hold for at least 5 years. I was told that it had been rebuilt once, but not recently. It did run, as the guy showed me it running on an engine stand. It appears to be a 100% complete original ford, down to the 2bbl ford carburetor, valve covers, fan and exhaust manifolds. It does have the 6-bolt belhousing pattern, so it will work with all 302 transmissions.

I purchased it for $700. How much do you think I can sell the engine for as-is? The buyer would have to pick it up in Maryland.

I think it would be incredibly hard to sell for $700 especially if your buyers can't hear it run and you have no documentation about it as far as when it was gone through.

Used 302/5.0 engines are very easy to come by in a junkyard for a couple hundred bucks, yours would only be more desirable to someone looking for an engine for a '67 or later car to keep it somewhat "numbers matching."

On craigslist around me, used 302/5.0's go for around $300-$500 all day.

I think in that price range, your audience is pretty small. I think you may have a prospect if someone is looking specifically for a 289. Otherwise, they will pay less for a 302.

Of course, I'm nowhere near Maryland, and your market may be different than it is here.

Best case (IMO) $400. While not as common as the 302s they're still a dime a dozen, but as others have mentioned if you find someone trying for "numbers matching" you might luck out. If it was a K-Code motor from a Mustang then its a whole new ball-game; there is a guy locally asking $750 for a set of bare K-code heads....
