I have for sale my C4. It was the original c-5 that came in my 84 bronco II but had it switched to the C4 internals when it was rebuilt in Oct/2013. Nothing is wrong with it, just pulled it out to put in an AOD. I have the transmission and the factory adaptor to the BW transfer case. I have the new C4 torque converter. I had this up against my 302. I also have the six cylinder bell housing that will allow this to go up behind a 2.8, 2.9, or a 4.0 since its my understanding that they all use the same bell housing.

I have a TCI flex plate 157 tooth C4 for the newer 50oz imbalance engines. (5.0)

I have the v-8 bell housing and the unicorn...a 2.3 bell housing for a C4 transmission. Both of those I would like to keep for a future project.

I have over $1000.00 in the rebuild and parts for the trans. This is all you need to drop in your 4x4 Bronco II or Ranger for a great reliable automataic. I live in southwest Missouri. Make an offer, I need to recoup some of my huge expense of putting the AOD in my bronco II. I will be glad to send pictures if anyone wants to see them.

This will fit. In 89 you have a fuel injected 2.9 and you have an ECM but it doesn't record trans codes. The C4 will bolt right up. I have the bell housing that came off my 2.8 which will bolt right up to the 2.9. You will need a flex plate off a 2.8/2.9 with an automatic if yours isn't an automatic now. I am not sure where I put mine so I hate to say I have it for sure.

First off I am a mechanic but not a full transmission guru. This will give you some insight to the c5/c4.

Some 84-85 Bronco II's came with a C5 automatic. The C5 is a C4 that has a slightly different valve body and uses a MECHANICAL lock up torque converter. This was Ford's improvement to the C4 and a precursor to the AOD. Most people did not like the shift points and the feel of the C5 compared to the C4 and when put behind a V8 the torque produced would take out the mechanical lock up on the torque converter.

My Bronco II came with the C5 in it. One of the reasons I bought it in the first place was because it had this transmission. I had planned on dropping in a 2.3 turbo in front of it since at the time gas was over $4 a gallon...but some friends talked me into the V8 swap....but I won't go into that right now...lol.

I picked up a V8 C4 out of Maverick and used the valve body out of it and had the transmission shop rebuild my C5 and use the Maverick valve body and new internals etc.. I installed a drain plug into the trans pan at this time too. Something I always wish I had done when I had my old 74 Bronco. I love this transmission in my Bronco II behind my 5.0. I only removed it to install an AOD in mine since its my daily driver and I drive 30 miles to work one way. I had it installed in my Bronco for about 6 months. It is ready to bolt up to your stock t-case. It does have the extension housing attached to it. I just had to use my T-case with the Advanced Adapters extension housing for the AOD. I think this would wake up a 2.9 too. It would feel more like a Mustang taking off at the lights....

Ok I will stop here let me know if there is anything else you want to know. I live in Southwest Missouri. Not sure where you are. I would love to sell this to recoup some of my AOD money and get room in my garage for my Dana 35 build up.

Thought I responded yesterday but I don't see it.

I have an automatic that has given it up but have discovered the cost of repair is more than I gave for the B2.

I live in sw Oklahoma

What do you think your trans is worth?

I have $600 in the rebuild. I had hoped to get about 800 out of it. Make me an offer. I would like to get it out of my garage.

Given my cost to drive up there and back + installation I think I'm willing to go $500. Honestly, the B2 is one of many projects I have and not a top priority although I would like to get it back out to new mexico.

I talked to my mechanic and he's ok to put the trans in for mr. I would like to get it from you and 500 is ok with me. Only problem I have is getting up there to get it. Leaving for a couple weeks tomorrow and going the other way. Middle to late in the month is as soon as I can come get it.

I'll call you when I get back to see if you still have it. If you sell it before I can come get it I understand. I'd appreciate a pic or two if you get a chance.

I don't know how to go about shipping a trans at a reasonable cost but I'm open to other suggestions to get it sooner so you can get paid.

Thanks

After I got the trans from you my mechanic got killer in a car wreck...finally getting the bii and trans to a tans specialist (that's all he does)...he's telling me there is no way the trans I got from you will fit in my 89...he says bell housing won't fit (the one with it or my old one) and the transfer case wont match up either

not happy here

The bellhousing from a 2.8, 2.9 or a 4.0 will fit. The C5 , originally in an '84, is a bolt up trans. I also have an '84 that I put a V8 in and used the C5 converted to C4 with a new bell. I sold my stock bellhousing to someone wanting to put a C4 behind there 2.9 or 4.0, don't remember which. No reason what you have doesn't work ???

According to the go-to transmission guy, it Won't fit an 89, as far as I can tell, 83-85 used the c5

Dr. Tom, I think you need a second opinion from another tranny guy. The C5 DIDN'T come stock on an '89, but it will damn sure bolt on. 2.8, 2.9 or 4.0 this will fit, '84 to '90.

Your "go to" guy is spewing bad information. He's wrong, time to reconsider what he has done and told you to this point.

Given what the junk yards want and the limited availability I hope so. I'm willing to bet, given your information that my regular guy could have made it work but he recently died in a car crash...so I went to the guy all the other trans shops use when they can't make something work...water under the bridge at this point.
