manual transfer case

hey so i had a problem moving the swhifter was a bit sticky so i go and spray some wd40 to lossen it up witch it does just fine but now my tansfer case is stuck in nutreal it will move just fine and i can see it actualy during the knob on the case as my buddy switches from 2hi 4hi and 4 low but nothing wont go anywhere it is also a manual tranny and its an 88 any ideas

I presume it was working and driving before you had this problem? That it can't be something with the trans or clutch?

Push the vehicle back and forth a short distance and see if that clears it. Usually the manual transfer case switches pretty cleanly, but sometimes, if there is some torque wound up in the driveline between front and rear wheels (from like being in 4WD on dry pavement) it won't release from 4wd to 2WD until that torque is released. Backing up typically resolves that, but this sounds like a different issue.
