I have a 88b2 with a 3in BL and bushwacker flares. I want to run 33's but not sure if they will fit. I need rims but not sure what back spacing and with. Any one have any input that will help me. possibly some pics. Ive looked all over and still not sure.

33's will be stuffed, are they the cutout flares? 8 inch rims would probably be best in that situation because of rubbing issues.

yes cut out flares. also should i get 10.5 or 12.5in wide tires

That will put a lot of stress on your axles. Not to mention your engine. The d28 wasnt meant for tires that size.

yeah never thought of that. I'm thinking just get new 31's and put on the wheel spacers to fill the fender flares. And later down the road get a d35.

yeah its pretty rough with 373's and 33's on mine with stock axles haha. I would go with a 31x11.5, I ran them on my truck for a bit and they looked sweet and will fill your flares.

I had 33X12.5's on my 86 BII all through high school, with just a 3" BL and slight finder trimming. (the very bottom edges of the front fenders, and the inner lip on the rears.)
I don't know the back spacing on the wheels but they were 10" wide and tucked just fine. I never had a single problem with the D28 and the 33's, the 7.5 didn't hold up very well but never had any problems with anything else. It was pretty peppy for a 2.9 with 3.73's on 33's.

I just put 33/12.50/15 duratracks on some 15x8 wheels with @4" backspacing on my 89 BII. Stock suspension in front and some air shocks in the back. Checked to see how and where they were going to rub.

Once I saw where they were going to rub in the fronts, I installed a set of 3" lift springs that I had laying around waiting for more lift parts. I cut roughly a half coil off each and installed them in place of the stock worn out front springs. (front tires actually sit straight, but getting an alignment anyway)

This gave me the clearance I need so far for normal street driving and am able to turn lock to lock without rubbing, even going over a few speed bumps and curbs lol. The rear is clearing under normal driving with the air shocks, but the stock rear springs are so soft (worn out) that even some small bumps caused the tires to touch the fender at the top.

In the process now of deciding on what rear spring pack to switch to, use blocks, or use the 2" body lift I have stored away somewhere. I like the big tire/low lift look and am trying to accomplish the clearance issues without cutting or spending a lot on a lift and end up with a huge gap between the tires and body. Basically trying this step by step to see what works for me and how to get there.

I have 37s and 3.73 and its a dog, but strangely gets awesome gas mileage averaging 21 mpg. Since its only an off road toy and rarely sees the daily commute it doesn't bother me much, in 4L the little bugger is good thou, 4H not so much lol:icon_cheers:

21 mpg....dont you have that mixed up? (12 mpg?) I dont think the 2.9 could have gotten 21 mpg off the lot with 225/65/15s

And you're stating you get 21 mpg with 37s?! :icon_rofl:

Don't you have that mixed up with the 2.8? My 86 got a constant 24 mpg with 33's and 3.73's. I don't see anything wrong with his statement.

Wow...I could NEVER get anything above 14 mpg with my old BII...and it was all stock.

Well maybe Im just lucky but both of my 2.9's have gotten 20mpg or better no matter how or where I drove them. My 2.8 got around 8 mpg if I was lucky. (by luck I mean downhill with a back wind) And hey we all enjoy being smartasses sometimes.

Ya at the beginning i thought it was a huge miscalculation but after 3 fills with all of them being at 21 or 20.6 or 21.2 i was shocked. Then I learned to love my 2.9 even though if you ever have to get out of anybody's way well your screwed because their is no balls:icon_rofl: but ya regearing is a top priority since its a trail truck and i need more umph to go.:icon_thumby:

I left my truck without a speedo, im going to make a sheet metal gauge cluster so all thats going on it is oil pres, water temp, volts, tach, gas , and maybe oil temp:icon_thumby:

I actually get a little better than 20MPG with 235/75/15s
