Actually, the 95 and 96 have a CAD (center axle disconnect). Basically disconnects the passenger side cv shaft from the diff allowing the drivers side to just spin the spider gears. 97+ is a true "live" setup. Either way, you wont notice any difference in mpgs.
The stock manifolds on an OHV are log style and they dont flow real well...period.
What prevents the motor from gaining much power is the exhaust port size and design. The 4.0 was built to be a torquey low rpm engine. Your not going to gain a shit load of power when you install headers...
