Can you convert a 1354 from electric to manual shift style? I might get one for little or nothing from a friend.

yep, pull the motor off the back and turn the shaft with pliers. They are completely different inside in regards to shifting and not easy to convert. Many of the internal parts interchange between the two though

I was wondering this too. My buddies got a ranger with push button 4x4 with a blown motor and can get my hands on a bronco with a shiftier for the 4x4 but it needs a new tranny. Transfer case is still good though could I just swap transfer cases?

this is really really really ridiculously easy.

i did it. took all of 15 minutes. to swap the cases out and in. i still need to hook up my shifter though. i have the 5-speed trans and the shifter is made to mount to an auto, but the guy i got it from had it mounted up in his B2 that was a stick.

12 step program

1. SAFTEY! apply parking brake. chock the tires. use jack stands and all that good stuff.
2. drain fluid
3. unbolt the rear shaft from the case
4. unbolt the front shaft from the diff
5. slide the front shaft out of the t-case
6. unplug shift motor
7. unbolt electric t-case
8. move that crap out of the way.
9. bolt up manual case.
10. slide/bolt drive shafts back in
11. install shifter/fill with fluid
12. drive and enjoy.

It's easier than that. I got a custom made shifter with a Ford OEM cable that goes to the t-case from the shifter. They're available from D & D Performance/KC Fabrications for about $300. Install takes about an hour requires drilling a hole through the the floor board. Get one here:

The website sucks, but Doug is a great guy and garauntees the shifter for life.
