A am deeply considering swapping the 2.8 v6 for a 2.3 I4. The ol girl is going to be seeing alot more action as she has been enlisted as a work rig. Manly highway and town usage. I am very concerned about economy. I also do not need to haul any thing of substance.

I know that there was a 2wd I4 option for the rangers in the same era.

I would like to mate a EFI 2.3 I4 onto the C5 tranny and stock 4x4 running gear. I understand what is needed to go from a carb to EFI. I just need to know will the tranny and engine mate. then if there are any motor mounts or will I need to fab that up.

Thank you

Richard

If the C5 tranny originally had a 2.8 attached to it then no. Currently the 2.3 bellhousing for the 3 speed autos is the holy grail of ford parts. The drag strip 2.3T guys use them in their all out drag rigs because autos are faster than manuals when you are talking about sub 10 second cars.

I would just put a 5-speed in there. 5-spds with the 2.3L's bolt pattern are plentiful.
