*READ THIS POST FIRST - UPDATED OCTOBER 7, 2023*

*I HAVE 2 OF THE POINTS-TYPE DISTRIBUTORS LEFT AND NONE OF THE DURASPARK*

These are 2.8 V6 distributors for 1974-79 Mustang II Capri Pinto and also for 1983-85 Rangers and Bronco II, to replace the computer controlled distributor. The points-type can be used as is.

I am doing a Duraspark conversion on my 85 B2 and found these distributors used at salvage yards. I couldn't find any reman, new, or NOS 30-2691, 30-2671, or points-type distributors after diligent searching. I was fortunate to find some on salvage yards.

I have 3 points-type distributors at this time. They all turn freely with no play noted in any of the shafts. I got these because I was worried that I wouldn't find a Duraspark distributor. I've had points-type distributors in many cars and they can be very reliable, or convert to electronic with Pertronix. $90/each includes USPS shipping in lower 48.

I have had good luck with used parts, but these are priced low enough, given their scarcity, for you to have them rebuilt. No guarantees, warranties, or returns.

I'm a real person near Gainesville, Florida. Thanks for looking, Steve.

I’m needing a 30-2691.!
They are very very scarce...I lucked into 4 used ones and 4 points-type for the 2.8 V6. I used one of the Duraspark in my 85 B2 and quickly sold the rest on here and the Ranger Station Forum. I have 2 of the points-type left. Shafts turn without excessive play. Vacuum cans leak down. $90 each includes shipping in continental US. Sorry, but I must sell as-is, no warranties or returns.

I was looking through pertronix website and couldn’t find a conversion from points on there. Before I buy one do you know the part number to convert them? I’m also doing the duraspark conversion on my 85 ranger. The distributor is the last thing I need.

Try Bosch distributor 0231308011 PFU 6, numbers off one I sold that looked like it had Pertronix or similar parts in it replacing the points.

Ok I was under the impression that only the 77 & 78 mustang ii had the right distributor for the conversion.

The very same 2.8 V6 engine was used in 74-79 Mustang II/Capri, Pinto and some others, and then 83-85 Ranger/Bronco II. 74 was only year with points, 75-79 was Duraspark, and...well, we know about the Rangers.

Somebody smarter than I am might be able to find out what Ford used the 2.8 in 80-82, and solve all of our ignition part supply issues.

That's great. Gear is probably the same as your old tfi distributor.

I realize this thread is a few months old, but I came across it while searching for a distributor for my 1983 Ranger. I’ve got an 83 Ranger 2wd 4spd with the 2.8 v6, and I’m in the middle of converting the ignition system to one of the better systems. I’m been searching for a duraspark distributor and have had no luck. So I started looking for a points style distributor and came across this thread.

Halfmoon, do you still have any of the point style distributors left?

I might have one or even 2 points type left, but if I sell them I have to be very clear: no warranties or returns whatsoever. I got them from junkyards and already sold the best ones (after I kept 1 Duraspark for my 85 B2). The shafts turn with a little binding, and I believe the vacuum cans are bad. The vacuum cans for the points-type distributor apparently are even more scarce than the Duraspark distributors. If that sad song hasn't scared you off, $90 each including shipping in the lower 48, I take Zelle or US Postal Money Orders. It will be this weekend (2/25/24) before I can check my stash. Steve

I completely understand the no returns or warranties, that doesn’t bother me at all, Neither does the vacuum cans. I’ll just be glad to get a distributor. Let me know if you end up having 1 or 2 still after you check your stash. Thanks-Tucker

2 left, as pictured in this post. No cap or rotor - these might also be hard to find. Shaft turns easily on 1, little stiff on the other.

Awesome, thanks for checking! I’m currently pursuing a lead on a Duraspark distributor, but it that doesn’t work out, I’ll definitely pick one up from you
