Ok guy I just started on project relapse I had to rebuild an A4LD cause a 5spd convet would be way more then my rebuild
But here's my delema I already know that I'm doing a dana 35 ttb swap and an 8.8 but I happen to be stuck between an vw 1.9turbo aaz or an om617turbo both will have vgt turbos and a 5spd behinde them and I know people already make adapters for toyota trannys behinde them I just want all of your worldly wisdoms.

This is why when I did my 5.0 swap, I stayed with a manual.

My old tk4 had over 225k on it when I did my swap and didn't make a lick of noise or give me any problems. The a4ld wouldn't have lasted that long.

As for what engine to use, I'm not familiar to disks it those types but I would use the one that has easier to find parts.

mercedesdiesel4x4.com makes an adapter for ford transmissions for a decent price cheaper then the time it will take to make your own trust me I'm there. It'll fit just have to sink the rad Into the front end and mount some electric fans infront of it ( I'm using two Honda gold wing fans 30 bucks) and mounts are easy to make. And that a4ld throw it in the bush I put three in with my 2.9 in there and just gave up on it for a few years because of them just not worth the time in my opinion

I did a Kubota swap in mine, it was easier than the two engines you are thinking about. Runs better than the Benz and delivers better MPG than the VW. Just my 2cnts.

An automotive diesel can get higher revs and run smoother over industrial diesels.. I ran my 5 cylinder diesel on a bench sitting on its pan reved it up and is doesn't shake much due to the balancing of a odd number of cylinders in the motor another plus to the Benz motor. Odd number cylinder motors will always run smoother that's why big ships run them too off topic but just a fun fact do as you please with what you can get man experimenting is half the fun of it. Anyone says it can be done do it just to piss them off..
