all I need is a cheap, running 4.0L that doesn't overheat for my explorer. I need to get it running and sell it. possibly a rear axle (8.8).
i have a buddy with a 3.73 limited slip 8.8, it's out of a 94 expo. we just parted out. interested?

i'm hearing that swapping in the entire dash and steering column and everything from my explorer is going to be alot easier/faster then splicing? :icon_confused:

can i get any input on this?

i cant find any builds or write ups where someones swapped the entire dash.

thanks.

I had also read that swapping the dash was easier. I can't comment though because that's not what I did. Originally, I did contemplate swapping the dash to make wiring easier. And it theoretically should because you are basically replacing all the wiring to be the Explorer wiring. So if you can go that route, maybe you should. I didn't end up doing that because the dash from the explorer was in bad shape. Also, I thought after pulling the dash from the explorer that putting one back in would be a real pain. So I did want to avoid that. But I suppose if you took your time, remember how everything goes back together, and have a friend to help, it may not be that bad.

I would swap the dash just because the 1st gen dash is gay. It would also give you the opportunity to go through and remove any wiring from the Ex that doesn't apply to the B2.

update:

got some work done on the bronco, i got the entire dash and steering column out of the bronco. wasn't to bad, took several hours. i think its looking like the better way to go rather then splicing lots of wires. i also started work on the explorer dash. here's some pics.

old dash this morning;

several hours later;

after that i got the whole harness out of there and the steering column. :icon_bounceblue: can't wait to this the new dash all mounted in.

new dash;

hopefully i can get the explorer dash out and i'm going to push to get it mounted in tomorrow.

:icon_thumby:

Also, i found a picture of my parts bronco we bought for the lift and tires, the tires are aired down so we could get the hoist high enough to lift the motor out lol.

thanks! i just read your thread and i'd have to say the same!

basically the same set up. i almost got the dash out of the explorer.

how much of a pain was it to install the expo dash?

and did you need to cut your driveshaft because you swapped in the d35?

ya. that's why i shortened the driveshaft. the explorer dash wasn't hard at all. I just cut the entire mount off the firewall and bolted it in the BII. I didn't have access to a welder but bolting it down was fine. the dash makes everyting real nice and it all just plugs in for the most part. where in Washington are you?

well today i got the dash out of the explorer, alot easier then the broncos metal dash. and put several hours labeling wiring on the motor. and i got the steering column and pedal mount swapped in from the expo.

i also found a small black box mounted to the right side brace of the steering column on the bronco. it has several wires leading out of it going turning into two plugs. on the box it says DO NOT DROP. i'm wondering what this is? i'll grab a picture of it tomorrow.

well i've gone tons of progress done in the past two days. i'm really pushing to have it done by tuesday so i can pick up my girlfriend at the airport and surprise her with the new truck running :D

anyways, i changed my mind about putting the explorer motor in the bronco. instead i changed all the good/new parts and rebuilt tranny from that onto the newer rebuilt 4.0 that was half in the bronco. i now will have the rebuilt motor and brand new rebuilt trans :icon_hornsup:

heres the pics;

hookin up the explorer motor;

bout half way;

explorer drivetrain;

unbolted the trans and bolted it up to the newer/nicer motor and dropped her in the bronco;

only 2000 miles on this pretty thing :icon_thumby:

tomorrow we start wiring the motor, installing the new dash, transfer case and drivelines, starter, and many many more small things.

keep your fingers crossed! :icon_hornsup:
