Ok so the speedometer drive gearing in the transfer case is crapping out in my Bronco 2. Last fall I put a new drive gear on it, but I didn't replace the worm gear. It worked fine until today. The Bronco 2 is 2wd, and uses a 1359 dummy transfer case. After the FM145 died, I swapped in a 4wd M5OD and simply bolted the dummy t-case to it. Then, I found a u-joint driveshaft at the junkyard on an '89 B2 that had an FM146 in it, as that was the right length.
I also have a parts '92 Explorer sitting there in the driveway, with a perfectly good electric 1354 transfer case in it.
My goal was eventually to make the Bronco 2 4wd. I hadn't planned on messing with it just yet however. Could it take the transfer case off the Explorer, and use it as a dummy transfer case on the Bronco 2, for the time being, to fix my speedometer, until I can complete the 4wd swap?
Or would it be easier to just put in a new speedometer worm gear? I haven't had any luck finding one.
