My 87 bii has no instrument lights and the fuel and temp gauge don't work. My headlight switch went bad and was replaced. Now my headlights work but still no instrument lights and gauges. I have power to the black w/orange wire at the headlight switch. Where do I go from here?
if you can find the elusive 1990 ford ranger with a 4.0 it will be a direct bolt in with no wire splicing fabrication or drama... just another option...
its probably a headlight switch... there's a thing in the library about upgrading with the wiring using a relay and larger wiring... probably a good idea while you're there...
84 and 85 BII's used a tank with a smaller opening for the fuel pump... so you will definately need a diferent fuel tank, and swapping out the steering column and dash is a lot of work... lots of wiring and there is really no way around it...
the 4.0 has a really long stroke as it is... i don't know that i'd want to go the stroker route... 4.0's already have a rev limiter set at about 4950 so if you stroke it you're gonna have to set the rev limiter even lower or risk blowing it to pieces... imo i'd stay away from a stroker on a 4.0...
so if i find a 2002 or newer ranger with a 4.0 and 4 wheel drive the trans will have the bosses for a manual transfer case such as a BW1350 or 1354???
This is my plan...
90-91 4.0 from ranger or exploder
m5od-r1 hd trans out of 2002 or newer ranger or exploder
BW1350 or 1354 t-case out of...
if i understand correctly that trans has no provisions for mounting a manual t-case shifter too? So it appears i would have to swap in an electronic t-case too... Or could i get really lucky and there be bosses for a manual t-case that just need to be drilled and tapped because i really would...
