I bought a new / rebuilt automatic transmission w/ overdrive for my 1985 Bronco II 4x4 2.8 liter in November 0f 2010 from Portland torque. I believe it was a A4LD. We have the Bronco on the farm and use it on and off. WE maybe have put 2500 miles on it. It sat up for about the last 10 months with some carburetor problems. Anyway we have the carburetor and engine working fine but we are having trouble getting the automatic transmission to shift gears. You can put it in first and it runs fine. You can put it in second and it runs fine. But if you put it in drive it only stays in first and will not shift to any other gear. Do you have any suggestions of what might cause this?

Maybe a stuck governor, I believe that would prevent a 1-2 shift.

I don't know if it would cause your problems, but when my kickdown cable want adjusted it shifted all over the place. Up and down shifting like crazy. Might be worth checking.
