im swapping the engine on my 87 bronco II its a 2.9L v6
so i want to know what other vehicles carry the 2.9L and what years will swap straight out. i know rangers/bronco II had them for 1985-1992 but will they all straight swap?

yes they all should be direct swap....keep in mind that 1988 and up....were engines that did not have EGR valves in them....so you going to need to bolt on the EGR related components from your 87....or swap out the ECM as well and wiring harness form the 88...IF...you get an engine that is 88' and up. California emissioned engines are a bit different as well....but over comeable. Not sure if a 2.9 was made in 85??

much more info in the TECH LIBRARY...check it out

hello master hec0 , I recently did a swap taking a 2.9 from a 1989 bronco II and putting it into my 1990 Ranger the only thing I found different was the fuel lines from the frame to the engine easy fix though.

i am now holding off and waiting to get a 4L because it is impossible to find a 2.9L up here or at least one in good shape.
