Has anyone seen or made for themselves a rear hatch with a motorized window? I'm curious if the opening/locking mechanism would even allow a window to be dropped into the hatch...any thoughts from the more fab-capable folks much appreciated!

i have seen a few. one in a half cab.

no details, it was at a autorama in detroit in 98 or 99, and had a targa roof as well.

they sell kits for trucks, would be somewhat difficult i am sure but doable.

the half cab didnt roll down all the way

the one at the autorama did, but it was a smaller window in a ford oval frame.

i thought it was cool....but not enough to investigate it...low rider 2wd trucks are not for me

As long as the window was secure enough to not rattle around, even having it down 3-4" would be enough to create a small draft and cool the cab a bit. Some sort of track would have to be fabbed, this is the part that I'm a little fuzzy on....perhaps when I've got some free time I'll try to get a hatch from the local graveyard and see what it looks like. Or better yet, take the covering off mine and see what the inside looks like first...

Watch out if your exhaust is plumbed out the back it will suck it in. My 73 blazer had the crank down and it did but all my 72 blazers and jimmy had the lift window.

Wouldn't it be easier to get an older hatch that has an opening window like my '84?? You could easily fab a stop to keep it open as you drove.

4runners have roll down windows in the hatch. Could be a good source for parts.

Tricky part might be keeping it sealed, alot of other vehicles with power rear windows are prone to rust issues in the rear gate, such as full size Bronco's. 84-85 B2s had a pop out option that can be left open while driving.

Go study a full sized bronco with a roll down hatch window, might be a good source for inspiration!

The glass is wider than the lower part of the hatch, you would have to make a narrower glass. There is also no free space inside the hatch, you would have to completely gut the interior and create a new inner skin.
