Hi all, new guy here. I have a 1988 bronco 2 with 2wd. For some reason my brake lights do not work when I press the brake peddle but when I turn on the headlights the left brake light is always on and the right one doesn't come on at all. I have them signals, hazards, and tail lights still. I have replaced the bulbs, the flasher, and the multi switch on the steering column.

Test the brake switch on the pedal.

When I was working on my brake lights I remember that I could put the bulb in reversed and the tail lights would be very bright and the brake lights dim. Maybe if the brake light fuse is blown and your bulbs reversed you might get your problem. I looked at the wiring diagram and don't see how you could get you symptoms, unless somebody jacked up the wiring.

Did this ever work, what is the history of the problem?

It wound up being a combination of the brake light switch and the bulbs were in backwards. I don't know how long the problem existed, I bought the vehicle in March and I am slowly returning it to operating condition. Thanks for the advice.
