My 84 b2 has the electronically controlled carb and it's giving me some bronco type action. My mechanic suggested a 2100 swap , good/bad?

thats a good swap, but you will also need to swap the distributor to a duraspark. look in the tech section for the specific info on this swap

You can get a rebuilt distributor for about $50, then a GM HEI unit for $20, the rest is just wires and connectors.

please consider the gm tbi swap, it uses a duraspark distributor, but doesn't need the duraspark module. and also gives you electronically controlled timing curves. or you can bypass the timing control and run the duraspark distributor with the duraspark module
with its own mechanically controlled timing.

here is the article on how to do it:

There are different sizes of 2100 carbs (and 2150's too) keep an eye on that.

I tried a 1.21 2100 on my 2.8, after I hogged out the holes in the carb spacer so the butterflies would open it would kinda try to run away a little when you got off the throttle (RPM kept rising for a second or two) Too much carb for a little 2.8. It was weird... and not in a good way. :annoyed:

I am a happy camper with the Duraspark upgrade, both on my 2.8 and 5.0. :yahoo:

You need a 1.08 2100 carb, easy to find. I used the same carb when I put the V8 in :)

You could also use a 2150 carb, which is the evolution of the 2100. But, yes, use the 1.08 venturi carb, definetely not the larger 1.21 but the smaller ones would probably be ok. Pintos with the 2.8 are a very good source to find this carb you seek, from my experience.

I appreciate all the feedback! How do I tell what the venturi # is? :icon_thumby:

The venturi size is cast into the side of the base, always on the driver's side from what I've seen.
