i found a 94 explorer rear axle for sale localy. was interested for the leafs, but it looks like it is an 8.8.. drum brakes, 3.73 gears like i need and 31 splines. any easy way to tell?

what should i look for good or bad on the axle?

go to the tech library and find the axle code, it'll be on the driver side door near the latch. match it up and it'll tell you what kind it is. btw, you didnt put a price

guy wants 200 for drum to drum with leafs.

the axle is out of a 94 explorer. i'll pull the number off the diff if i can get ahold of the guy

thats not bad, with the leafs too. the junkyard i go to wanted $100 just for leafs

LS means you would have to swap carriers to put in a locker if that's the route you want to take, but you can shim the heck out of the LS if that's the way you want to run.

all explorers are 31 spline 8.8's, look at the tag on the diff to tell the ratio, first characters on the second row will be the ratio, 3L 73 will be 3.73 with LS

my old 7.5 was an LS. and the 8.8 is as well. both 3.73's. bought the complete axle and leafs earlier today, and installed the leafs tonite, got about 1.5in more lift, so i'm sitting at about 5.5in in the back. can't wai to drive it!

does anyone remember the name of the company that sells ready to weld in spring perch's and stuff?

pics to come, prob not till monday tho. got work to do over the weekend

The RuffStuff kit is a well thought out kit and works great. The one you want is called "simple 8.8" kit.
