Whats the pros and cons of making my "drop" shackles a little longer? I am looking to remove/reduce my blocks and increase my pinion angle and I think I can accomplish both by doing this.

Pro: More lift

Con: Instability
More axle wrap (or equal to with block) caused by flatter spring
More leverage on already weak hangars

I'd look to a proper set of lift leafs before making an overly long shackle.

Yeah thats the problem. Budget. If I had the money for springs, it would end up going toward a rear locker first, then tires, then....

My shackles are pretty long (in comparison to stock) and have a very flexable bushing in them, and My stock explorer leafs are nearly flat. Obviously this is not anywhere close to ideal, but it doesnt handle any worse than it did before the shackles, and I have yet to come across a situation where I have any substantial axle wrap. Mine are about 9" bolt to bolt. I wouldnt go longer by any means though, Thats pretty much he limit explorers springs will take without bending or breaking (My passenger side is sagging a bit)
