x2 if youre gonna do a swap you may as well do a good one and get a m50d, not saying the fm isnt any good but m50ds are supposed to be really good

I think if you're nice to it, it'll last. But be looking for an M5OD.

I have the same trans in my 88, and it has been very good to me (knocks on wood) but the previous owner has had it replaced and it is on its 3rd. The previous owner couldn't drive for sh!t either though. I've heard 5th gear is really week.

i have a ranger with a blown fm145 and i am swaping an fm146 into it, the 146 is a better trans when it comes to bigger tires( its a little stronger but not by much).... but realy what you want is an m50d...AND JUST SO YOU KNOW $500 is a good deal, if its a good working m50d. around here they sell for about 800-1200
but if you are not doing much offroading the fm146 will be a good trans for highway driving.

i got a fm146 out of a u pull it fir $50 with no history, but the BII to inspect. the tranny had been sittin under the BII all winter but shifted fine so i popped the cover and the gears looked good so i took it wanting to get my truck back on the road ASAP after my A4ld blew. ive had it over two years now and i drive the living shit out of my truck. i only got a 2.9 but im very hard on it with no problems, other than the original bleeding of new slave and master cylinders.
