Help Removing the speedo cable from the cluster on a 86 b2

I've never seen this clip or had to do this before and you can't really get to it, and I don't want to break my speedo cable.. I already broke the clip, here's a pic, what's the secret??

IIRC there is a portion that you have to press on to release. In your pics it would be at the top of the white plastic clip. It is a pain to get to but possible. It would be a whole lot easier if I had an extra elbow!

You push on one side, the clip slides slightly to the side and you pull it off.
