You have to pull the diff to remove the c-clip.

the only way?

and is there a step-by-step here on removing a d28? because i never done that, this is what im thinking
1. haul driveshaft
2. drain fluid
3. pull diff
??

what about the drivers side wheel/shaft, i dont have to take that out to do i? my spindles are extremely very hard to get off the first time, and the drivers side hasnt been off before

The drivers side shaft will just slide out once you get the spindle off.

You have most of it, but, you will need to remove the pinch bolt on the drivers side of the diff, which may require relocating the radius arm temporarily.

Spindles are a b!$ch. They all are. The get covered in crap their whole life and are seldom removed for anything. Be glad it's hard to get off... It's all the holds the wheel on.

I always use a spare spindle nut (junkyard) and thread back onto the snout and then beat like hell with a 2lb sledge all the way around working it loose from the 5 studs.

Like mentioned the driveshaft should also have tork bolt holes in the center of the head. Don't use a cheap set of bits, the ones with a hollow center (harbor freight) will snap and damage the head. Ask me how I know.

The pinch bolt is self explantory. You will see it. It is top to bottom on the beam itself.

lol, silly blackBII and your conclusions. there is a rubber 'boot' in the middle of the shaft, i took that off, and slid the shaft right out. had the shafts out, put the new outter shaft on the inner shaft and added a new ujoint while i was at it, and put both the shafts back in and im 4wheeling again in 45 mins work :D

You asked me how to remove the inner shaft, so I told you. :icon_twisted:

If you would have asked how to replace the u joint on the outer shaft, I would have told you to remove the spindle and pull the shaft out, which, in effect would be separating the inner shaft from the outer shaft. :icon_thumby:
