how to install roof rack on 84 B2

got this a while back was going to have a truck shop install it but they wanted these studs that you glue in to the roof for the bolts to screw in to. couldn't find them and they wanted to much for install. so now i have this sitting in my garage and i need it mounted. any ideals, maybe plain old sheet metal screws and silicon?

The picture isn't coming up. But my 84 B2 has rails on the roof already for a luggage rack system but the cross bars are missing. I would think that adding a rack would be pretty simple, just make sure you seal the screws or bolts up so you don't end up with leaks in your roof.

i was thinking regular sheet metal screws plus some sealant around the screw to prevent leaking, but this needs to be strong enough to support maybe a tire and definitively a cargo rack carrier thingy i don't know its proper name

You could use sheet metal screws, but I'd rather bolt it on and have it more secure, which would require removing your headliner if it still exists but I wouldn't want that rack flying off on the highway when the screws decide to come lose eventually. Use lock washers or self locking nuts when you install it. Either way you need to make sure that you waterproof the holes.

Sheet metal screws just don't really sound that secure, they'll eventually strip out and start coming lose and before you know it the rack is no longer attached. I'd rather be sure it stays where its supposed to.
