My vehicle is a 87 bronco II
I want to swap in a 302. I am changing the transfer case to a dana 20 and am not worried about driveshaft changes. I am trying to decide between a AOD and a C4. Will these both bolt up to a Dana 20 or do I have to change the tail piece or something? The motor is a 91 5.0l mustang. I think i would like to use the aod
because of the overdrive. I am just concerned about how to bolt it up to a Dana
20

The only way to bolt the AOD and the 20 together would be an adapter. The shaft splines should be the same though. The c4 came bolted to a D-20 from the factory so that is no problem.
You could comprimise and use an NP208 behind the AOD. It is a really tight fit but, it works.

thank you

Thank you for replying so fast. I went and picked up a c-4 today. Tomorrow my motor is supposed to be dropped off. I know what I will be doing for the next 6 months.

Not if it's an RBV C4. They came from the factory mated to BW 13-50 transfer cases.

There is the issue, however, that they are OLD. All of them. And they have no overdrive gears so the choice of rear end gearing is different.

Why would I need an adapter to hook up a dana 20 to a c4? they came factory that way.
