Sweet. What are the diameter and length of those pins? I wanna crunch some numbers and see theoretically how reliable the shaft will be. I'm not saying its a bad design, I'm just learning about this stuff in school and want to apply it to a real world application.

No calipers on hand? That's cool, I hope it works out for you. You'll love the gear selection you have with the doubler, I know I do :icon_thumby:

preview of the doubler, sticking working the shifters out, but you get the general idea.

I see I see. I was wondering why you had to wait for a shaft if you already had a doubler. I hope this one lasts you a little longer.

haha yeah. The shaft is able to see the same amount of torque whether you're in 2 low or double low. Being in two low just increases the possibility of the shaft seeing the max toque. The trick is to find a shaft that can handle that stress/strain, so it is no longer the leak link in the system.

The shifters do look good too. I'm anxious to see it installed in the rig.

Nope. The torque output of the engine and the gearing of the transmission/first case is what determines the maximum torque that the shaft is capable of seeing.

If you have it in double low, and anchor your wheels to the ground so it is impossible for them to rotate (hypothetical), the shaft would see the same torque as if it were in 2low. Only difference is everything after the second case will see more torque in double low than in 2low, which usually causes u-joint, axle, or hub failure before the shaft sees the maximum torque load.

*edit*
Yes there is more stress on the shaft in 2 low in most situations, but that same stress is possible to obtain in double low, assuming the rest of the drivetrain is strong enough (which it usually isn't).

Thats because noone every gets in situations where theres enough resisting torque. Most of the time tires slip or axles break before the resisting torque is enough to make the shaft fail.

Shot of the linkage assembled. (cell phone Pic)

Got the doubler installed

Built a new trans crossmember, doubler installed, rear driveshaft. Still need to build a front driveshaft however and fix the floor in the b2 after getting the new shifters installed.

tried the doubler out yesterday, nothing like climbing obstacles in a stick and never having to give throttle assistance while doing so. Need to make some shifter adjustments and body adjustments, the doubler hits a certain spot on my floor and make an incredible irrating noise.
