Driving home tonite on a beautiful North Carolina evening I had the windows down and the radio cranked up...all was well in the world:yahoo:

I pulled in the driveway, turned off the radio and the power window on the driver side will not go back up. Passenger side works fine but the drivers side..nothing except the dome light dims a tiny bit when I hit the window switch. The 30 amp circuit breaker for the PW's was warm to the touch which leads me to believe the PW motor is shot. Anyone agree? Also is there a way to "hand crank" the window back up? I took the door panel off and tried to lift the window/regulator assembly but it wouldn't move. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Geoff
P.S. I did the Explorer leaf spring swap a few weeks ago....HUGE improvement! If anyone is remotely thinking about doing it, DO IT!!!

Sounds like time to replace the motor. I believe in those years don't you have to replace the regulator and motor ? I'll ask my brother tomorrow about his since he has the same problem.

I would say take the motor out and give the brush's and the contact points a cleaning before you buy anything.. Cleaning them brang life back into mine.

Thanks,
Syko

Edit: did you try to lift the window and press the window switch at the same time?

sometimes you can hold your finger on the switch and slam the door at the same time and get it to work again

It may also be a broken or bent tooth on the regulator or the motor. My dads did this if you rolled it down to where the window was all the way down in the door it wouldnt come back up. If you left it 1 inch up it was fine. If you have the door panel off tap on the motor with a hammer to see if its just seized up. The motor and regulator will seperate. Problem is you will have to take a punch and push the factory rivets through to get the regulator out. Just find a smaller punch or phillips screwdriver that will fit inside the rivet and push the metal center through. Shouldnt take too many wacks. Or just grind the heads off. Your choice. then you can get the regulator out of the door and unbolt the motor from it. When you go to put it back in its best if you have the window about halfway up just hold it up with some masking tape over the top of the door.

sometimes you can get them back up by using a 12volt jumper wire and ground usually power windows have two wires and it is reverse polarity to make them go up and down. I usually use a set of jumper cables from the battery and two small 1/16" bits as probes

Thanks for all the advice!!!! I did like hopster said and held the switch and slammed the door after removing the bolts from the motor just to see if it would spin freely when disengaged from the regulator. Magically it came to life.
Thanks again!!!
