A lot of b2's and explorers are like that. It's a very convenient thing to have.

It was an option. I modified my non opening one to have the opening glass. I also have 3 more replacement windows should one break.

If you find a Bronco II opening-window hatch it should bolt right up.

So you are saying that I can't take my non opening-window hatch of of my BII and put on my opening window hatch? The mounts and latches are identical.

I thought I read somewhere that the rear hatch of a bronco 2 would interchange with the hatch of a first gen explorer. So that's not an option due to different sizes?

Only 84-85 B2's had the optional hinged windows, one is a pop out, the other a full swing open with gas shocks that unlocks with the same handle as the gate. Explorer parts are not likely going to work

Ive had both on the back of since people like rear ending me so much, right now i have the solid sealed glass and i hate it compared to the other two i have had with the opening window. How hard is it to do the swap. I have the old glass and interior latch components.

To swap the whole hatch I believe all you do is remove the hinge bolts and replace the hatch and install the hinge bolts, you most likely need 2 people to do this though as the hatches are quite heavy to try to maneuver around while trying to install or remove the bolts. Has anyone been able to install a rear wiper/washer on one of these hatches? My 84 B2 doesn't have one, even with the fixed rear window. Are there any writeups anywhere that explains how to do the swap and anything about installing a rear wiper/washer with the opening rear glass?

I have all three types of b-ii hatches and a 91 exploder. the expo glass won't swap but I was eyeing up the windshield wiper portion and think it may swap over fairly easy to the opening window hatch. It would take some work to make the b-ii wiper swap over to the b-ii opening window hatch, as in trying to figure out a landing for the wiper so it isn't in the way of opening the window.
I haven't actually looked at how the window is mounted in the b-ii hatch but I'm sure you could easily swap the parts from a opening window hatch to the non. Copykat mentioned having to drill holes....it can't be that hard [famous last words?]

Yep. And the wiper sits on the glass when in the off position, making it real hard to swap in an opening window. You might be able to swap the other way if you lower the pivot point and build a landing ramp :dunno:

Were Bii's ever offered with a rear window on a motor that rolls down into the hatch...? Id love to be able to roll it down when on the trails, it gets warm sometimes...
