Anyone have any experience rebuilding the FM146 Trans?

How difficult is it and does it require any special tools from Ford?

Thank you in advance.

I have a 88 B2. It had a FM 146...Did some reading on it, and found the fifth/reverse synchro "locks up"....which is exactly what mine did. After talking with some people with experience with B2's I was informed that the M5OD was a much better transmission.....they were correct...I wish I had only found one with much fewer miles on it.......never the less I have been driving it now for one and a half years and had few problems I couldn't take care of with a couple of seals. Mine came out of a 1991 Ranger 4x4........just make sure the replacement M5OD transmission(if you chose to go that route) is the same length with the transfer case.....if applicable.
