Hello,
Didn't see a "New members introduce yourself here" thread so please move this if I missed it.

My Name's Dave & I just bought this '88 XLT for a fun rig & to hopefully pass it along to my 10 year old son for a 1st car in 5-6 years.

It's not here yet, but I snapped a couple quick photos with my phone in the previous owners garage.
Obviously been repainted.
Not sure what color it is... Rootbeer? Champagne?

She's got a 200,000 mile 2.9 & a manual transmission.
Supposedly never been overheated, but there is a slight coolant leak.
Frame looks real nice & only a bit of rust by the tailgate.
Anyway, thought I'd say Hi.
I'm sure there'll be many more pictures & I'll be asking lots of questions.

Welcome.

B2 looks good. They are great little vehicles that can be a lot of fun and have tons of potential.

The forum has lots of information, it's a great resource.

O.K. after a minor title issue, she's cleaned up a bit & in my stable

But she also has some thing that need attention.
Not necessarily in order of importance....

1. uneven tire wear on the front two tires.
2. push button 4-low on working.
3. Oil pan/valve covers leak.
4. headliner needs removed
5. windshield cracked.
6. front seats need recovered/replaced.

I also would like to tow a small dirt bike trailer & I'm not sure the bumper hitch is strong enough.
Here's my '72 XL250

& my sons 50 back when he needed training wheels..

I forgot to add the fuel gauge is wonky & a lot of the interior plastic parts are old & brittle.
But what do you expect for the age.

Here's the door codes. Can you read them?

My plans....

Lift. Don't want to go to high. James Duff looks to be one of the nicest kits out there.
Wasn't going to do a body lift, but after reading how easy it is to remove the oil pan with a 2" lift, I might change my mind.

Possibly put in a manual transfer case & hubs, I've never had electric/auto
hubs. Maybe I'll like it if I get the 4-low fixed.

Redo the interior, fix the slight rust spot that's left & paint the exterior.

Finally.. possible 4.0 & stronger axle upgrade.

Nice B2! And old Honda! Is that an Elsinore?
If you are interested, I'm selling a manual transfer case, manual hubs and some other parts in the classifieds http://www.broncoiicorral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152109

I also have the manual transfer case shift lever assembly somewhere in my shop, but it's AWOL at the moment. Only bad thing is that I bet shipping a transfer case won't be super cheap.

Hi VWa1, Thanks.
No, Elsinore was the 2 stroke. Mine is the 1st year for the XL series....
In my opinion, one of the most dependable/toughest motorcycles ever made.

Yes, I saw your add & was interested, but I think you're right about shipping to Ohio...44714, if you'd like to get a quote.

Thanks, the bumper hitch should be fine for what your towing. Before I changed my bumper I pulled my 5x10 trailer loaded with heater wood.with no problems.

Check the rear driveshaft though before doing a ton of towing. If it hasn't been changed the cv joints are weak when they get warn.

I'm sure it will be a fun project for you, I've had a ball working in the shop with my boys. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Ha!, Rear drive shaft was just upgraded a couple of weeks before I pried it away from the previous owner... my boss.
He was just about to get on the hi-way & BANG!
No drive to the rear axles.

Oil changed...Valvoline high mileage.
Rotated tires per owners manual....
The auto hubs were a shock to me.
Came right off with the factory aluminum wheels.
None of my other 4x4s were like this.
Shocks definitely need replaced....

Gotta fix the 4-lo first.
Did a search & didn't find anyone that's had my specific problem.... 4-hi works fine, but no 4-lo. No flashing light, no noise, nothing.
Need to buy a service manual & figure out what's what.
Can the shift motor be bad just in the 4-lo, or is it the push button up front.
I am at a complete stop,in neutral, clutch pushed in.

Here's the new drive shaft.... Hopefully I won't need to change it with a 3" lift.

I would check power to the switch and after the switch. Then check power at the actuatoron the transfer case.

As far as the rear driveshaft goes, you should be ok with the lift. My current shaft has been through stock height, then 4" rough country lift, and then an auto to M5OD swap, and still fits fine. I'll check on that shipping today for you. Wonder if I can fit a transfer case into a flat rate box... hahah.

Best price I can find on shipping for that t-case is around $70.00 to your zip. So around $150 to your door. That will include the shifter assembly. Kinda pricey, but still less than the Ebay ones it turns out. Hell, I'll throw in the locking hubs too as long as they don't throw the shipping cost off too much. They are UGLY, but work great. :D Let me know if you want em, I'm in shop clean up mode this week.

Thanks vwa1, But I'm going to hold off on the swap.
After reading up on it I'm not going to do it right away.
For now I'm just going to see about getting the 4-Lo to work.
