Okay so before the whole “the 302 will kill your transmission” conversation, the adapter I want to buy only comes in small block Ford bolt pattern. It is for a 3.3l Caterpillar diesel engine, very uncommon swap, so I have to work with what os out there.
Option 1- small block bell housing and flywheel with adapter to BII transmission.
Option 2- stock bell housing with 4.l flywheel and clutch assembly
This little diesel is rated very similar to the stock engine, so really no need for the bigger heavier small block flywheel. I don’t have much experience with small block Fords, so I can’t recall the bolt pattern. Also can’t seem to find a comparison between the two. If it will not fit, does anyone make an adapter to put a 4.0l six bolt flywheel on a small block bolt pattern?
