Hey guys I need help. My 89 B2 has a lock on the spare tire lugs. It seams to use a door key blank. Just none of my keys unlocks it. I am probably the 10th owner so I haven't a clue where the original key is. An pointers on getting it off? Least destructive method possible.

So your door key doesn't work on it?

My door key works on mine so I guess something got swapped someplace.

If you have a blank key you can probably make one.

I think my doors were replaced by a previous owner.

The reason I say that is because m door tags have a date of 6/89 on them which i believe should be a 1990 production year, and my b2 is an 89'. The odd thing is both doors and hatch all use the same oval key, but that same key does not remove the spare lock. I'm thinking lock smith is probably the way. Suck cuz I could probably build a new swinging tire rack and rear bumper for the cost of a rekey. Lol

Regarding your build date of 6/89. That sounds about right. It seems that most model years change with a build date of August or September. So 6/89 would most likely be a 1989, 7/89 could go either way, and 8/89 and later would be a 1990. That's what my experience has been anyway.
