Is it difficult to trade out these two? My son has an 85 BII With a bad 2.8 and we have a 89 ranger with a good 2.9. Would there be any difficulties in swap like this. I know many of you will say if you're going to all that trouble, just put in the 4.0 or the 5.0. I need advice.

It's not horrible, but you are going to need a high-pressure fuel pump and return lines. Possible the in-tank pump on the Ranger would fit in the B2 tank, not sure. The fuel lines are totally different so that's the biggest issue. The wiring is not a big deal since you have the donor vehicle. You will need the diagrams--go to helminc.com and get them for both trucks, and buy some reading glasses. Mark every wire, figure out what it does before you disconnect or cut it. The engine harness is seperate from the body harness and it comes right out of the computer hole under the blower box and lays in place across the firewall. There will be some thinking as the body wiring is different between those generations, but it's not bad if you figure it out before you start cutting. Pretty much everything else will work fine right out of the donor vehicle.

2.9, 4.0, 5.0 can't decide
you will need the fuel tank and lines from a 2.9 b2 and the pcm out of the donor
