I'll try to keep this quick. I'm brand new to the forum and a buddy of mine told me to come here and I'd find out what the problem was with my SUV.

Basically what's happening and I think it has to do with the vacuum not working correctly in the front. I can be going down the road and when I let off the gas the front end will howl like gears grinding. It will stop when I accellerate again or if I put the trans in neutral and slow down.

How can I fix it simple and cheap I don't intend to spend much more $$ on it.

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing.

Just an FYI. Check the pinion bearing. The IFS D35 is known to eat pinion bearings...if it's an AWD it is even more common.

Did you get the problem fixed? Your explorer's 4wd is not operated by vacuum, I too would guess wheel bearing.

I owned a 97' Blazer (god I hate Chevy), but it did the same exact thing that your explorer is doing and yeah it was a bearing hub. Hope this helps.

my neighbor has the same problem went for a ride tonight it does it on deceleration and when you turn. Its loud on both turns so not sure if its a wheel bearing any other things it may be?
