well Guys I am kinda new to BIIs I have owned two rangers and enjoyed wheeling them but the wheel base is a little too long for me so I have decided to get something shorter. I found and 85 BII with a 3'' BL and 31'' bfg mts and a "locked up" motor. The person is asking $300 for it. My main question is how well does the 2.8 do in extreme wheeling, I understand it is still a carburator and is not FI, but how has it done for some people?

If it is seized, then that would be a perfect time to swap in a 4.0.

For $300 its hard to go wrong. As mjones said its the perfect time to swap in a 4.0. The engine is locked up, so you need to pull it anyway, shop around and find a 4.0 to throw in. I say go for it.

if its hydrolocked you might be able to get it running without too much trouble. i picked up a hyrdolocked explorer one time and all i did was pull all the spark plugs out and it cleared all the water out then i cranked it over

Since it is an 84 carbureted model the easiest swap to do would be installing a 289 or 302 carbureted engine. I know a person who did this swap relatively easy and inexpensively. Not to mention the power gains you will add will be substancial to that stock 2.8L engine.
