I just purchased an 1989 bronco II, with the 2.9 and it needs a little more power. I searched and found this "Performance Chip" on the web for 69 bucks, Does it work, or is it a gimmick? Claims are up tp 60 HP, and 4-6 mpg!

Thanks,

Wayne

Just like any other chip, claims to do something it may do. $69 is worth a try price.

Do they really work?

Watch out for the little cheapo box "chip".

Thanks for the reply! I was hoping for a little feedback from a member who has installed one, as the "Proof is in the Pudding". You are correct, that 69 bucks is not much $ but if it does not work, it is money thrown away. And, since my bronco has had allot of work done on it, by the previous owner, and runs like a top, I do not want to take away from that either.

Most likely a gimmick, but a link to said product would help determine that.

aint no way, the best "chip" for a 2.9 is putting a 4.0 in it's place

I had one in mine...Didn't notice anything at all. It was a Jet Chip.

Perhaps it would help if more was done along with the chip? Maybe with a few more bolt ones but I doubt it. The lil 2.9 is pretty much doing all it can from the factory in my opinion.

Snake oil has certainly gone up in price and diversity over the years.

Thanks Very Much! Finally an answer that I can digest! "I figured" that these were like all the other snake oils I have seen in my life, but was hoping for a Miracle! Like I said earlier, it is not just about getting the boost in HP, and MPG, I worried about doing damage, as far as my CA smog test goes.

Thanks Again,

Wayne

All they are is a resistor you put in series with a few sensors, to make it register lower readings.
