hey i just got a 89 b2 it has a 6" lift and the front diff is toast so i am planing on a dana 35 swap but the problem i have a plate style lift can i just cut it some and weld braces on? i also have a very leaky 2.9 should i rebuild it and but 5.13 gears in it or find a 4.0 its sittin on 33s now but im gonna get 35s for it.i also wanna put a 8.8 in it i just want a good reliable mud/trail truck.

Leaks are easy enough to fix... I probably wouldn't swap the 2.9L simply because of that.
However if it's got other major issues, I probably wouldn't bother rebuilding it unless it had some sentimental value or something (doubting it does being you said you just go it). In this case go 4.0L and 4.88 or 5.13 gears.

As for the drop plate, there have been a few people that successfully trimmed theirs, but I would look for a full new bracket for it. Trimming it enough for it to clear all the way is gonna weaken it unless you weld some reinforcement to it.

dont swap out the 2.9 because of the seal or motor mounts..

those can be fixed in a driveway and for almost nothing. you dont need any special tools. an extension on your wrench helps though lol. and if i were you, id just trim it and gusset/brace the notch, its cheap and effective.

swapping in the 4.0 is alot more $$ and time than fixing your 2.9 from what you have told us. and dont take my word on this, but i think the ranger dana 35ttb isnt as wide as the xploders. after i did my 8.8 rear swap, my rear tires stuck out maby 2" wider than my fronts. but now there even since i did the 35 swap.

ALL D35 TTBs are the same width (59.5") doesn't matter what vehicle they're in. The Ex 8.8 is 59.5" as well, so that's why they match now

Those tires look tiny on it! They would look huge on mine though. Looks like you need to put a snorkel back on it. N

Nice truck, hope you have tons of fun with it.
