Thinking of buying a GenI Explorer (93-ish) to augment/replace tha capability of my '87 BII (little more room, stronger motor). Gas mileage is poor. Does anyone have any idea if the 2DR Sport (10" shorter wheelbase, looks much smaller) gets a measurable difference in gas mileage?
Thanks.

Both me and my friend that borrowed my 91 Navajo (sploder sport) get 25-26 on a regular basis. Stock tires, 3.55's, 5-speed, 4.0 ohv, 4wd. I keep it running good, so it runs cheap.

You won't see an appreciable difference in economy between the 4 door and the sport. For the difference you will see you might as well buy the 4 door for the extra convenience of the extra doors.

Our '94 4dr gets about 16-17 on the highway. It has since day one back in '96 when we got it.

4x4 A4LD and 3.31 gears with 235/75-16 all-season tires.
