Help? 86 Bronco II stereo colours

Hey everyone, so as the title says.. I have an 86 B2, and I've been trying to hook up a newer panasonic CD player in lieu of the stock cassette am/fm.
First I'd like to know which wire in the truck goes to the Yellow constant 12v+ on the stereo. And then which wire goes to the Red switched 12v+ on the stereo.

I had found a forum on another site that told me to hook up the Constant 12v+(Green/Yellow) from the truck and the Illumination (Blue/Red) from the truck, both to the Red wire in the stereo.
The Yellow/Black Switched 12v+ from the truck, to the Yellow in the stereo.
And then the Black to the Black for the ground.
This got power to the stereo, but my dashlight would not turn off..
I hope this is not to confusing for you, because im lost lol.

so what i've added here is light green/yellow truck wire goes to the yellow wire of the radio
next, the illumination wire on the radio (usually orange) goes to the light blue/red wire on the truck
the reason you're having issues w/ dashlights is the fact you have the illumination wire hooked to a hot wire(switched by ignition)

Yeah the factory connector was cut off when I first got the truck, so its just a bunch of loose wires at this point. Ive been searching up alot of stuff the last few hours and this is what I've come up with.. if it sounds about right, give me a yay or nay.

Truck Wires:
-Constant 12v+ -Green/Yellow
-Switched(ACC) -12v+ Yellow/Black
-Ground -Black/White
-Illumination -Blue/red
Stereo Wires:
-Constant 12v+ -Yellow
-Switched(ACC) 12v+ -Red
-Ground -Black

So What I gather is to match them up, pretty straight forward if its correct.. and then to supply power to the dash via the Illumination wire, to connect both the Illumination and Switched 12v from the truck together.. and then connect both of them to the Switched 12v on the stereo.

Yay or nay?!

You've got pretty much what I managed to come up with, but i dont remember there being an orange wire on the stereo that I have. So what I have gathered is that as long as the illumination wire is connected to a 12v power supply that is triggered by the ignition then I should be fine?

the problem w/ that is the light won't dim w/ the dash lights.. you need the blue/red of the truck to the actually illumination wire of the radio. what brand is the radio? there should be an illumination of some color.

Yeah I get what you're saying there. I ran out an checked, its a Pioneer stereo not a Panasonic. The only wires that were left over after the speaker wires and the power wires that I can remember were a brown(mute) solid blue(antenna) and a blue with a white strip(for the amp) If memory serves me well

none of those will be used for you i don't think. unless you are running an amp

No I don't plan on running an amp anytime soon.
I'll just try running the illumination to the switched 12v of the stereo, having lights is better then no lights.. even if it doesn't dim. Can't see it going to badly lol

yeah but some radio's have extremely bright lights when its dark.. i'd look at it, try to do it right...

its up to you. but since you're doing it all now- might as well do it right.

Yeah I'll have another look at it for sure, have to wait a few days until I have some spare time.. put the dash back on because I didn't realize the lights were staying on. But I'm sure I'll figure something out.

In my experience, many decks do not have a feature to dim with the dash lights. In fact, of the 10 or so decks I have wired, I only remember the blaupunkt deck I owned having extra, unused wires.

Yeah I don't remember seeing that before either, I think I'll be fine with how I plan to tackle it
