got a plan for the 44 housing i have now. my stepfather just picked up a 2wd ranger, i think its a 90 or 91 model. i'm going to try and convince him to let me take his 2wd stuff (crossmember, beams, and trans for my "other" B2), and make his a 4x4. i have almost all the parts to either SAS it, or swap in a dana 35 (or 28) TTB.

Finally some progress! Took a half day off today since the weather was nice, and spent about 3 hours working on the BII

Started my afternoon like this

Tossed the motor in, this time the lawnmower was enlisted for help

Motor in, yanked the hoist out

Ahhhhh, that’s more like it

Plenty of clearance with stock EB oil pan

Firewall clearance (will be a little more once I level out the motor and get the trans mount made)

My temporary trans mount

Factory EB exhaust manifolds fit great

Bolted the starter in while sitting on the front tire

Bolted the core support on. I just happened to have a ton of small bolts, washers, and nyloc nuts that fit perfectly

Tossed some fenders on so it looks more like a truck, and less like a pile of parts

Sitting next to a stock BII

Approximate tire stickout (track bar needs adjustment)

Got some cutting to do, that piece of wood is where the shifter tower goes

Grabbed the first hood out of my spare parts pile and bolted it on

My stopping point for the day

Hopefully tonight I will be picking up my FW 44 and 9” combo

Cool deal. Looks like you still need to move the RA mounts back. You ill love the Duff parts. I love mine. Works awesome. Money well spent in my book.

thanks everyone! yeah, i still need to move those RA brackets back. going to wait until i swap in the other 44, since i'll have to take a bunch of it apart anyway.

just got back home with my "new" axles. matching set from a 78-79 ford f150, and complete from end to end. i really hope my ruffstuff perch/u-bolt kit fits on it (originally bought it for the explorer 8.8). i'll check next time i go out to work on it.

took a pic of the axles. both are upside down. can't find a tag on either, so i am not sure what ratio they are. the guy i bought them from is going to bring me the other drum as soon as he finds it

I hope to get the axles in this weekend. the guy i am borrowing the hoist from needs it back monday, so i am going to use it as much as possible to move the axles around.

lots of lifting, tire swapping, and axle dragging are in my future....

The perches and u bolts will work. The explorer 8.8 and 9" has the same size tubes.

Gearing in them are probably 3.50 like damn near ever other set I have seen.

got the axles unloaded, and the spring perches ground off the 9". anyone know if the wheels studs from rbv axles are the same size as the fullsize stuff? these axles need studs bad, and my scrap axles have good ones.

I like where your tires are sitting in the fender well, I don't think I would move the ra's back, it would then look as if your front axle was shoved back under your truck.

at least that is what I think, and I don't think too well.

but any who, I do like the way the tires are sitting in the fender openings now.

thanks!

and trust me, i like where the axle sits as well. but those coils are bowing just a little more than i care for. the hiems are screwed all the way in as well, so i can't just move it back a little with them.

I'll probably move the RA brackets back an inch, so i have a little adjustment in the heims. then i may space out the coils a little so that i can move them forward a little. if i can find some flat 3/8" steel, i think that may be enough.

hopefully then i can get the coils straight, and keep the axle about where it is now.

thanks! i'll probably run 36-37" tires, depending on what i can find a good deal on. for width, 12.5", on an 8" wide rim. going to tuck the tires in as much as i can. i'll probably just get a roll of those cheap pacer flares, and some mudflaps to cover the tires a little more.

pictures only tell part of the story. constant measuring, going from one side of the rig to another over and over, then double checking, then finding out you started out wrong, takes up lots of time.

despite that, it was a lot easier than i thought it would be.

so i was checking for numbers on the 9", and here is what ive found so far.

on the third, near the housing, stamped upside down is "7L3", "67", and 2 "C"s with an "M" over that.

also on the third, but near the yoke, is D2SV4668C, and SF5

I also noticed that with one tire on the ground, i could not turn the other by hand when it was on a jackstand. so the rear is not open, but a limited slip or locker. that's a nice bonus.

anyone know what the numbers above mean?
