So, 3 4x4 modules and 4 switches later, I still have no 4x4 in the Explorer. No light at the switch, module test says it's ok, not one bit of clicking or other noise. I have a brand new shift motor waiting to go in but is there anything else I should check? Last time I checked the fuses they looked fine, but I could always replace them just in case.

Am I not getting power to the switch or something? I swear that if I get under this thing, put the new shift motor in and still nothing, I'll burn it to the ground! No 4x4 for two winters now is getting a little tiring.

My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Check power to the switch. If thats ok check power from switch to module.... Power from module to shift motor...ect...... Or re-wire from power to switch to motor..... Or swap in a manual case and never have an issue with it again.

I'd look for a manual transfercase like BDAB stated. You'll have a lot less head ahce.

Sweet damn deal! Put the new shift motor in tonight and BLAMO!!! The 4x4 is working just fine now. I was sure I had a break in a wire or something, but nope, a burned out shift motor can cause no lights at the dash and no noise from the module. Most satisfying clunk I've ever heard coming from a vehicle!
