I can vouch for this. My truck did this just before it went out too. I'd check for codes 1st

Your three best suspects in order are:

The aforementioned TFI module

The O2 sensor

The Throttle position sensor.

I'd start with the TFI, and go from there. The TFI in these trucks are known for going bad because Ford put them in a really stupid spot where they are exposed to a lot of heat.

Could be any of the above or a dying fuel pump. My F150 and my Ranger have both done that before the pump died.

Cool clean the intake air temp sensor and the idle air control while you are at it then reset the computer. You need to reset it anyway if you change the 0-2 sensor. Run the KOEO test and as the computer starts giving you codes end the test to erase the memory. Then disconnect the battery while your changing the 0-2 sensor, TFI and cleaning the IAT. Once you get it all back together run it for about 20 minutes at medium speeds to set the new values for the new sensor. Then run the codes again to confirm the repair. If you change or clean a sensor you need to reset the computer.
