I'm slowly fixing the little things on my 90 B2 and I noticed a 3X5 piece of plywood covering up the top back part of the original (I think) center console. Well, I took it off and there is what appears to be large pieces of metal bracketsl and other hardware inside. What is the purpose of this? It seems to have no mechanical function. I'm thinking it was part of some other option that I didnt get and this was originally a plastic trim panel covering it up.

It sounds like someone broke the arm rest off of the bracket, then took the bracket off and covered the hole with plywood.

The mounting frame of the factory center console is a large aluminum cage.

Beyond that, I have no idea what you are talking about without pics.
