I would make the truss a little longer to cover more area, and if you could get a plate big enough, I would tie it onto the diff cover mounting bolts...

I thought so. I really didn't want to weld the new axle. This is removable, and I am pretty sure thats what caused the last carrier to break. Whether it was weakened from welding or a weak weld that broke loose and locked up the rear. Now I don't have to worry about it.

No, but I figured I would add some beef while it was sitting on the floor and I had the materials.

Links aren't out of the question, but way out of budget. It will be a long time if I ever did.

Full size fords after 97 went to a different axle it was no longer the standard 8.8. It's a 9.75 axle like wiki says that came standard.
Ummm...you can still get an 8.8 in an F150 1997-present. They came behind some 4.6L V8 trucks and all 6 cylinder trucks.

Hmm, I stand corrected. I was under the assumption they all got the 9.75 with the body style change.

I had a mini spool in my 9in. Broke the cross pin on the 3rd trip out. Replaced it, broke it again next trip out!
Try realllllyyyy hard to find a full spool. I got one off Fleabay for right at $120 shipped. Took a few weeks to find a cheap one, but just keep digging for a spool. If not, you will regret it.

I'm not a fan of mini spools for that exact reason.

Full spools don't exist (to my knowledge) for c-clip axles.

A properly welded carrier is definitely stronger than a mini spool application.

Bray, you are correct. A C clip eliminator is needed for a full spool for any C CLIP axle...

I'd run an open diff before I ran a mini spool.

Ah my step bro and my good buddie are running mini spools front and rear, just when they are trailing they leave one hub unlocked, when it gets harder then go lock the other hub. They havent had any problems doing most parts of the chilli challenge or anything around this area so I figured give it a shot.
